The exhibition responds to the gallery’s new space in Kiryat Hamelacha, which up until recently served as a Judaica factory. On the ruins of the closed down factory we present an exhibition which brings objects of Jewish ceremonial art together with local visual art. Before the space is transformed into a gallery, “Silver Linings” aims to pause and acknowledge the presence of the past and its continuation into the present. The space of the abandoned Judaica factory is kept the way it was left, with layers of dust, dirt, and the personal objects that the workers left behind. Like a gemstone fixed within a Menorah, the various objects on display are embedded into the architecture and become a part of its form. The encounter of Jewish ceremonial art with fine art reveals overlapping territories that exist between these two different manifestations. The exhibition generates a space to rethink the relations between life and art and between the sacred and the everyday. This relationship, as articulated in the connections between the various objects on display, is embodied in the corporeality of the material. It originates from one particular point where the relation between man and light was first established.
